Description of Half day MTB tour along the Black River
If you like being outdoors and are not afraid of getting tired don't miss the chance to get to know Umbria aboard a mountain bike !Take an excursion along the Black River , following the course of the ancient tramway Terni - Ferentillo : you will cover a route of about 38 kilometers , of medium difficulty, starting from Arrone and crossing the territories of Montefranco and Ferentillo , arriving at the medieval village of Scheggino .
Your day will start at the Hiking Center - Cycling School , where there will be a short introductory theoretical course : you will be explained how to use the mountain bike and you will be given some information about the itinerary and, once finished, you will be ready to go!
You will skirt the left bank of the Black River for about an hour and a half, thus arriving at the central square of Scheggino : it will be possible to rest, recover your energy and visit this delightful medieval village to then leave again for Arrone , following the course of the Nera river .
At this point, for the more experienced bikers there will be the possibility of making a detour, taking the ascent to Umbriano : 1.5 km uphill with slopes on rough terrain , locally known as the rip core and, once the stretch of road is finished, you can visit the ghost town of Umbriano and its ancient castle and then proceed downstream, while the rest of the group will follow the normal return route to the Excursion Center .
Once back, it will be possible to take advantage of a cool-down session and then choose where to have lunch: there are some restaurants in the area or you can choose the homemade basket , prepared by a local food and containing 2 tasty sandwiches with fresh cold cuts, a drink and a fruit!
