Gruppo Speleologico CAI Jesi

The CAI Jes Speleological Group i (GSJ) was founded in 1948 (but at the time it was called "Gruppo Grotte" ...), the year in which the local CAI section was refounded after the events of World War II and the Resistance.

We deal with both exploratory and urban caving.

Exploratory speleology : it is certainly the activity that we are most passionate about ... Currently we are engaged in the exploration of some caves in the Frasassi area, in the San Vicino mountain group and in the mountain massif Catria. We completed the exploration of the Invisible Grotto in 2009, now we are operational in the San Vicino group and in the Catria massif.

As regards explorations "out of town", the Gruppo Speleologico CAI Jes i is engaged in Abruzzo (coordination ORSA) and occasionally also in the Apuan Alps, organizing exploration camps open to all those who want to contribute , in the spirit of a transversal speleology that is recently taking place in Italy.

Urban speleology : in collaboration with the Municipality of Jesi we are carrying out a project of systematic exploration and documentation of the artificial cavities of the territory.

For now we have explored a Renaissance aqueduct, an ancient spring, an air-raid shelter and a nineteenth-century aqueduct. The results of our research will be published in collaboration with the Municipality of Jesi.
