What is truly exciting about going into the water to cool down and have fun, is that each swim is a completely new experience. Every wave you ride is a different sensation, every stretch of rough water you cross makes you feel even more exalted, every seabed you discover while diving is a world apart and so you can continue with the whole range of water sports available. Moreover, by practising them we take care of our physical and mental health, generally surrounded by the most spectacular natural landscapes doing for example,
canyoning on Lake Garda or
Kitesurfing on Lake Garda.
1. You will improve your ability to work in a team
There are an infinite number of options when it comes to water sports and many of them are team sports. Whether it's on the beach, in the river or at a reservoir, you can spend a day of adventure and sport surrounded by nature with your friends and without realising it, such a day of fun will enhance your ability to work as part of a team.
Let us give you an example: sailing. Sailing is an overwhelming experience that involves all our senses, but we must remember that we are in the immensity of the sea together with more people and for everything to go smoothly, we must coordinate in unison with our colleagues. Since we will need that coordination in every movement, this sport helps to improve the listening and communication of the team members.
2. You will be in communion with Mother Nature
Without a doubt, one of the most enriching things about doing water sports is that we are part of nature which means that we are not only exercising our physique but also pampering our eyes with beautiful landscapes. Little by little we will discover new corners of our country and getting to know new beaches where we can sail, new coastlines to discover under the sea by snorkelling or diving, or going down the wildest rivers of our geography while rafting or canyoning.
Being in contact with nature for hours while doing sport offers us countless benefits: we are purged of the daily tensions caused by cities and their pollution, it increases our curiosity, encourages our creativity and helps us to listen more to our inner voice, as the silence that usually prevails in natural environments allows us to easily abstract ourselves and focus on issues that are really important to us.
3. The first step to being fit
The list of benefits for our body on a physical and mental level is endless. If your goal is to get fit, we recommend that you try a water sport, any of them, because in addition to the advantages that we have already mentioned, you will be surprised when you see that your body will be more toned and you will have gained more strength, as we will be using all the muscles, which by combining aerobic exercises give us greater cardiovascular strength.
You won't believe how many calories you'll burn, as being immersed in water gives us more resistance and if we add to that the fact that we usually have to use equipment that adds weight, and therefore requires more effort, we'll be rewarded with a dream-like body in no time. For example, by surfing, windsurfing or doing SUP, you can burn up to 1000 kcal/h.
4. A family adventure doing water sports
The wide range of opportunities offered by water sports gives us the chance to share them with the family. If organising a day with the family is a reason to look forward to doing something together and different, water sports make that moment even better. In addition to the enjoyment of everyone who, regardless of their age, will feel that they are experiencing an unforgettable adventure.
It doesn't matter what sport you choose, whether it's a kayak trip or an exciting surfing day, the coast is big and the rivers are long, so we will find sections and corners with room for all ages that will allow us to have fun regardless of our level of skill. Doing water sports all together as a family, from the youngest to the oldest, you will be able to enjoy the benefits mentioned above while having an epic day of excitement and exercise in the water.
5. From the most serene... to the most extreme
In the same way that we have good days and days that are not so good, there will also be times when we want to do water sports in a relaxed way and others when we want to venture into an extreme and exalting day that takes our pulse to skyrocketing levels. With the same level of fun, we can enjoy a relaxing kayak trip along a beautiful river, as well as an intense jet ski route through some of the best Italian coves.
Water, like all the elements of nature, can show us its calmest side as well as its wildest one. Who hasn't ever felt like sailing off and forgetting about everything else? And yet, that same person might have a day of wanting to do water-skiing, no matter what. What do you feel like doing today?
When to jump into the water?
Don't let a certain time of year ruin your water fun days. You can enjoy the beach or the river any time of the year, however, if it is true that there are perfect dates to have fun in the water, although it will depend on your level of experience in the sport in question, and also on the geographical location.
For board sports such as windsurfing, surfing or bodyboarding, if you are a beginner, from May to September you will be able to enjoy clean waves, with little movement in the sea and pleasant temperatures, but if you are already have some experience, in winter the strong winds usually make the most extreme waves.
If you are looking for diving opportunities, we totally recommend you trying during the months when you know good weather and warm waters predominate, so that you can get to know the bottom of the sea with some peace of mind. These conditions belong in the summer although, of course, it all depends on your location.
If you're looking for river sports such as kayaking or rafting, spring or summer are the ideal time to delight your senses with mostly serene sections and some stretches with rapids and white-waters, but if what you want is an adrenaline rush, these same sports in spring and winter are the best of the best when it comes to rough water excitement.
