The route has a medium difficulty level and will take you for 20 km (approximately 3 hours) to discover the most classic of the itineraries that cross the Fossa Cupa state reserve >.

The route winds through the forest, where, by pedaling, you can discover a notable variety of animal and plant species.
At high altitudes the flora is characterized by beech trees while holly grows in the undergrowth.

Specimens of wolves and wild cats have been reported in the area; while in some specific periods of the year (especially autumn/winter) it will be possible to encounter deer which, in this period, go in search of food closer to the structures in the region involved in the reintroduction of the species into the woods of the Province of Potenza.

For this excursion there are three main variations of the route:

• Hawk's Nest variant,
• Variant Sources of Basento,
• Monte Carmine Sanctuary variant.

By combining them with the classic tour, "personalized" itineraries can be created in terms of mileage and route difficulty.
