Canyoning is the mountain activity you don't expect. When you think of descending torrents, the first image that comes to mind is certainly that of a canoe, kayak or dinghy, but what if in Trento you could descend by foot?

The Trento area, characterized by a completely montainous terrain spread throughout the northern region, is certainly the most suitable for river sports. The narrow, winding river gorges will allow you to fully enjoy the experience, giving you the adrenaline rush you need and satisfying your craving for novelty.

Where to go canyoning in Trento?


• Palvico and Rio Nero, torrents of the Val d'Ampola, are the best known in the area, thanks also to their strategic location a short distance from Lake Garda, the largest and most famous lake in Italy. Its rocky walls and crystal-clear waters will make your experience unique.

• Tignale, a water course that is distinguished by the presence of heights from which to dive and areas of light and low current that leave the possibility, between the descents, to relax among the natural pools.

• River Neva and Torrente Novana, in Val Noana, next to Valle di Primiero, a few kilometers from Mezzano. The main feature is the presence of fossils in the underground, which, with a little luck, you can observe along the route.

• San Biagio River, inside the Adamello Brenta Park, suitable for those who decide to take their first steps in the world of canyoning: abseiling points of up to 20 meters surrounded by suggestive waterfalls.

• Val di Fiemme, crossed by the Avisio stream, offers routes for the less and the most experienced, fun is guaranteed between relaxing strokes and stone slides, you will feel like in a water park!

Who can go canyoning in Trento?


The immensity of the hydrographic network of the entire province of Trento makes the experience suitable for everyone. Thanks to the more or less easy and long routes, it’s possible to find the one that is closest to your level of experience. I'll tell you more: canyoning in Trentino is often accessible also for children and young people, try it with the whole family!

Is canyoning dangerous?


No. The mountain guides in Trentino are highly qualified and, after giving you an initial briefing, they will accompany you throughout the entire route, helping you in case of need, advising you and always keeping you under their watchful eye.

Depending on the difficulty (easy/medium/difficult) of the torrents in the province of Trento, you will have to pay more or less attention, always keeping in mind that you are in wild and unspoiled places. Tip: if you don't feel like doing something, just don't do it. Diving and sliding are not mandatory, you can always descend with the help of ropes.

How to dress for canyoning?


This sport is a perfect mix between the sea and the mountains: you will need a swimsuit and a thermal jersey, the waters of Trentino are not warm! It is essential that your footwear has a good non-slip sole, the rocky walls of the Trentino torrents could play a trick on you; choose sneakers or light trekking shoes. You will be provided with a special wetsuit designed for water activities, a helmet and the technical equipment to embark on this adventure: rope, harness and carabiners to face the steepest and most vertical descents.

Remember to bring a towel and a complete change of clothes, you don't want to go home wet!

When is the best time to go canyoning in Trento?


In the province of Trento, given the harsh climate, it is preferable to practice it in the warmer months, between spring and summer, otherwise the water would be very cold. However, you should always take into account the state of the torrents, which will depend on whether or not it rains in the area.
