Description of Associazione Speleologica Bresciana

The Brescian Speleological Association , which has always been affiliated with the Italian Speleological Society, is active in the speleological field with the basic purpose of promoting and research on karst phenomena in all its manifestations.

Since its foundation in 1982, Associazione Speleologica Bresciana has organized activities of exploration , cataloging , study and protection of the caves , with particular interest in the natural and artificial cavities of the province of Brescia, and enhances and disseminates the results obtained in the research and studies carried out for scientific and educational purposes.

In the first 10 years of activity the group has contributed substantially to broadening the knowledge on the karst phenomenon and on the underground world of our province; in fact, more than 300 new caves have been explored and documented, making a decisive contribution to the development and conservation of the cave cadastre. The credibility gained thanks to the seriousness demonstrated and the commitment of these first years of activity has led us to establish collaborations with Public Bodies, Parks and Nature Reserves in order to provide data and studies concerning karst aquifers.
In the early 1990s, some members also began to take an interest in speleology in artificial cavities and began the first collaborations with technical studies in order to explore and document underground passages and tunnels that characterize the subsoil of the province and above all of the historic center of our city. In particular, the most important work was to study and document the basement of the Brescia Castle.
In the meantime, the speleological research does not stop and, in addition to a hundred minor caves, 3 new caves are explored and documented (Büs del Fienile Achille, 9a BIS and Büs di Casa Braschi) which will be included among the most important caves for depth and development of the whole province of Brescia.

From an educational point of view, the Brescia Speleological Association maintains a constant commitment to training culturally and technically trained speleologists.
To date we can count: 28 1st level courses (Introduction and approach to speleological activity); 3 II level Regional Courses ; numerous internal courses of II level of specialization ; 2 Level III National Courses (all approved courses of the S.S.I. Speleology School).

The ASB, simultaneously with the functions already indicated, organizes educational excursions inside some caves in the Province of Brescia intended for students of schools of different levels and levels, in order to disseminate theknowledge on speleological activity aimed at protecting the karst area and karst resurgences.
Also for schools we have been activating the project "Discovering the Secrets of the Castle" for years, excursions to learn about, through urban speleology, the environments and the history of the town fortress.

With the same purpose, we periodically propose a calendar of events (such as "Days of Speleology") in which we also guide adults and families on excursions in the karst area and in the cave, who will thus be able to experience the speleological adventure.
