The Faenza area began to see a spread of speleological practice only in the 1950s, a decade in which two associations dedicated to this practice were created, without each other's knowledge. The two groups, born under the name of "Vampiro", the first, and "Città di Faenza", the other, different in constitution and age of the participants, began to weave an assiduous collaboration which led them to explore a great quantity of caves and cavities of natural formation, thus making the history of Faenza speleology.
After an initial and enthusiastic season of research and exploration mainly of a sporting nature, a progressive mutation within this nucleus of speleological interest has led to a change of direction to the advantage of the more scientific aspect of this practice.
A path that led what later officially became the Faenza Speleological Group to establish increasingly active collaborations and exchanges with other groups in the region and, above all, to broaden its scope action on an international scale.
