The practice of speleology in Turin is very ancient, dating back to the end of the 1940s.
The Piedmont Speleological Group was born in 1952 and in 1957 the first speleology course was organized with the aim of making speleological experiences known, in search of companions who shared the passion for caves.
The GSP develops quickly, reaching a fair amount of exploratory maturity already in the first years of its formation, which elevates it to the title of one of the main groups on the Italian territory and to carry out a large quantity of expeditions in the different regions.
The passing of the years also equates to a progression from a technical and material point of view, so the 70s saw the arrival of ropes to facilitate progression activities and the 80s saw a further in-depth study of national and international cavities.
