Description of Gruppo Speleologico SIAL

The SIAL Speleological Group originated from the spontaneous aggregation of an initial group of 26 speleologists in 1975.

The union in Genoa of this group of expert explorers who, at that time, found themselves representing the entire field of Ligurian spelology, took place at a particular moment for this discipline on a global level, due to the advent of new technologies and more modern materials that would completely transform the appearance of this discipline. These transformations in the basics of techniques and behavior in the cave allowed a radical transformation in the depth of descent which became increasingly greater, and in the degree of safety they allowed to be achieved.

The new materials also opened up incredibly possibilities for the explorer, who could try his hand at particularly complex expeditions, until then absolutely unthinkable, characterized by long ascents, destructions, descent into siphons located several hours away from the entrances of the cavity.
In a closed environment like the Ligurian one at the time, the SIAL Speological Group immediately represented an ideological novelty: open to other positive "cultures", it adopted the concept, extremely innovative for those times, of understanding exploration speleological as a useful opportunity to increase one's internal baggage, in terms of adaptation and knowledge of a natural environment.

It also organizes internships to introduce you to speleological activity, so that you can become familiar with the materials, techniques and activity.
