Description of Guided tour of Lecce between art and architecture
Often called "the Florence of the South", Lecce is a city with extraordinary architectural and artistic riches, very rich in examples of Italian Baroque both in its monuments and in its buildings.
The guide will escort you to the beautiful historic center, the heart of the splendid Salento and a very short distance from the very transparent waters of the Adriatic.
The excursion will take the group for approximately three hours and will touch the bright Piazza del Duomo, leading us to admire the majestic examples of sacred architecture such as the cathedral and the church of Santa Irene, and then we move to Piazza Sant'Oronzo to discover the remains of the Roman amphitheater.
The many riches of this city which mixes Messapian and Roman origins contribute to making it one of the most beautiful in the south, capable of encompassing the passing of the centuries and the beauty of an extraordinary position.
The tour will start from Porta Napoli, from here we will take us directly to Piazza Duomo which contains points of great interest for the visitor; here you can in fact admire the Cathedral of Lecce, with its bell tower, the Episcope and the Seminary.
At this point we will go to visit the Church of Santa Irene which is located near the aforementionedPiazza Sant'Oronzo. A short distance from the square there is a real concentration of points of interest that you will visit in the company of the guide:
- the Roman Amphitheatre,
- the church of San Marco,
- the Seat.
Moving to the center will allow us to discover other testimonies of the extraordinary union of aspects of historical and artistic value of the importance of this city, including the Church of Santa Chiara and the Roman Theatre.
We will conclude our beautiful and interesting day with a visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce, an excellent representation of Lecce's baroque style, and the neighboring Convent of the Celestines.
