Often referred to as "the Florence of the South", Lecce is a city with extraordinary architectural and artistic riches, rich in examples of the Italian Baroque both in its monuments and in its buildings.
The guide will escort you to the beautiful historic center, the fulcrum of the splendid Salento and a short distance from the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic .
The excursion will engage the group for about three hours and will touch the luminous piazza del Duomo , taking us to admire the majestic examples of sacred architecture such as the cathedral and the church of Santa Irene , and then move to piazza Sant'Oronzo to discover the remains of the Roman amphitheater .
The many riches of this city that mixes Messapian and Roman origins contribute to making it one of the most beautiful in the south capable of enclosing the passing of centuries and the beauty of an extraordinary position.
The tour will start from Porta Napoli, from here we will lead directly to Piazza Duomo which contains points of great interest for the visitor; here you can admire the Cathedral of Lecce , with its bell tower, the Episcopio and the Seminary.
At this point we will go to visit the Church of Santa Irene which is located near the aforementioned Piazza Sant’Oronzo . A short distance from the square there is a real concentration of points of interest that you will visit in the company of your guide:
- the Roman Amphitheater ,
- the church of San Marco ,
- the Seat .
Moving to the center will allow us to discover other testimonies of the extraordinary union of aspects of historical and artistic importance of the importance of this city, including the Church of Santa Chiara and the Roman Theater.
We will conclude our beautiful and interesting day with a visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce , an excellent representation of the Lecce Baroque and the neighboring Convent of the Celestines .
