Description of Guided tour of Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina

This guided tour of Piazza Armerina will allow you to discover one of the most beautiful Roman villas in the world, proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its splendid mosaics.

The villa, built around the 3rd - 4th century AD, probably belonged to the patrician Valerio Massimiano. Thanks to its mosaics, it is possible to retrace the history of the Roman Empire and reconstruct the scenes of daily life through depictions of heroes and divinities, hunting scenes and games.

The Villa del Casale is made up of 48 rooms and is structured around the quadrangular peristyle, which is accessed from the vestibule. The entire floor of the peristyle is covered with mosaics depicting European and African animals, while in the garden it is possible to admire a fountain with 3 basins, covered in marble on the outside and with mosaic on the inside.

From the peristyle you then access the Corridor of the Great Hunt, with two colonnaded apses and two female figures at the end which symbolize the two peripheral provinces of the Empire.

The tour continues with a visit to the room with the tengirls in bikinis depicted in the various gymnastic competitions. The visit ends with the Circus room used as a gym with the mosaic of the room which reproduces the Circus of Rome.

The price includes only the visit and not any lunches or tastings. Furthermore, during the visit you will be accompanied by a qualified tourist guide, an expert in these places.
