Come and discover the wonders preserved by the Duomo of San Gimignano, the collegiate basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, which is the main Catholic religious cult of the town.
Probably built in 1056, in the square of the same name, today it stands majestically at the end of a large staircase and it is possible to observe the evidence of the various modifications that have occurred over time.
The bare facade is the result of the thirteenth-century arrangement, which was then followed by works which saw the opening of two side doors and the creation of circular windows.
The interior, consisting of three naves, features frescoed decorations of great importance: one of the pictorial cycles dates back to different centuries and its completeness is therefore very rare.
Among the important artistic testimonies, we find works by Bartolo Fredi, Memmo Filippuccioand Benozzo Gozzoli, of which is precious >The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian.
But again, you will have the opportunity to admire a splendid Last Judgement, signed Taddeo di Bartolo, and many other noteworthy paintings.
