Bequeathed to the Italian Environment Fund in 1988 by Guido Monzino, today Villa Balbianello continues to amaze us with its beauty, while it overlooks Lake Como imposingly.
Located on the small wooded peninsula of Lavedo, in the eighteenth century it was the home of Cardinal Durini, who used it as a place of leisure and relaxation, and then became, in the second half of the twentieth century, the refuge where Guido Monzino chose to keep his memorabilia.
Books, furniture, primitive art collections still lie inside the villa, in the same order.
Inside the Expeditions Museum, testimonies of the well-known mountaineering exploits of Monzino, the first Italian to reach the top of Everest, are kept.
To complete the beauty of this place, then, the majestic garden: with its avenues lined with statues, its panoramic terraces and the incredible variety of trees and flowers present inside, it offers a magical unique to the Balbianello complex.
Finally, not to forget the eighteenth-century loggia which crowns the aesthetics of the villa, making it a unique place of its kind.
