If you are wondering what quads are, we will tell you. They are four-wheeled vehicles fitted with automatic transmission and can be manoeuvred easily. This means that you can focus solely on having fun and not worry about changing gears. All you will be required to do is accelerate and brake at the right places. These vehicles are perfect for having an off-road adventure through fields, countrysides, trails or even the woods and be one with nature. Given the shape of its terrain, Tuscany is the ideal place for this.

Barring a few exceptional cases, the quad courses offered in Tuscany will almost always be accompanied by a professional instructor. They will organize everything and accompany you during your quad biking session. To operate a quad bike, you must be of legal age and possess a valid driver's license. There are two types - License A for high-powered motorcycles and License B for cars. Rentals of two-seater quads or buggies (only for sandy routes) are also available, which can accommodate children as young as 7 or 8 years old as pillion riders. In addition, some companies in Tuscany hire out mini-quads for children aged 6 to 12!

Where to do a quad biking tour in Tuscany?

- If you wish to go quad biking in the province of Lucca, specifically in Bagni di Lucca, the shortest course is 11 kilometres long, while the longest is 33 kilometres long. Both routes will lead you into the breathtaking Val Lima, with a 600-meter variation in elevation. Only asphalt will be used for the first 1500 meters, after which you will climb 1200 meters to Monte Prato Fiorito. You will also get to see the gorgeous Orrido di Botri canyon in between the stages.

- In the province of Arezzo, quad excursions to Malafrasca-San Frustino (fraction of Pergine Valdarno) or Lucignano offer an articulated path between the stony and muddy fields of the Tuscan hills, as well as calm routes through the Valdarno and Valdichiana's woods and valleys. Montelucci, Civitella, San Pancrazio, Il Borro, and Terresi are all accessible via the many trails available.

- You may also experience excellent quad excursions if you are in Maremma of Pisa. In Castellina Marittima, Volterra, and Terricciola, you can go quad biking and the itineraries primarily consist of tours through nature, through woods, farms, and Tuscan villages. You will also encounter some parts on asphalt though they are limited like the area's limited highways and a little traffic.

- In the province of Grosseto, you can participate in one of these quad activities in Montieri. Go biking on the beautiful Grosseto metalliferous hills, known for large deposits of lead and silver, in Manciano, on the Albenga and Fiora hills' territory, or in Follonica, in the beautiful Tomboli nature reserve.

- Beautiful quad bike adventures are also available on the islands, specifically on Elba Island (province of Livorno). Revel in nature or in the presence of your loved ones, and dare to explore the beauty of the Italian countryside area. Places like the Monte Capanne chestnut groves, the old Etruscan necropolis, or the caprili, a distinctive pastoral structure of the island are worth admiring.

- Day trips from Florence: We will take you on a tour of the city's wonderful hilly surroundings. Bagno a Ripoli is one of the sites we recommend, where quad excursions will take you along the gorgeous Chianti hills, with the magnificent city of Florence as a backdrop. The dirt excursion to Borro San Giorgio, the less experienced route to Fonte Santa, or alternatively the route to Monte Pilli, along the Arno Valley, are both recommended.

- If you want to rent a quad in the heart of Siena's province, Asciano or Pienza are the places to go. We recommend trips to the Chianti hills, the city of San Gimignano's slopes, and the Crete Senesi from here. These latter parts, ideal for buggy routes, are named for the hue that the clay and rubble provide the terrain: distinctive grey-blue scenery that resembles a lunar landscape.
