Description of Guided tour of Canne della Battaglia
Take part in our guided archaeological tour in the historic and ancient town of Canne della Battaglia , in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani .
A certified guide of the Puglia region will accompany you to discover this famous city that was the scene of the great battle, called "di Canne" during which Hannibal , at the head of the Carthaginian army, he defeated the Roman battalion.
The battle of Canne took place in what is now the countryside of the city of Barletta and is remembered not only as the most important battle of the II Punic War but also one of the most striking examples of tactical encirclement.
The visit will unfold among the remains of the Roman Citadel with interesting notions about this historical period, but it will also affect other eras of the history of this locality, through the traces of human settlements that from the prehistoric period, arrive at medieval times, passing through the classical and the Apulian-Greek periods, with visits to the necropolis and the "Antiquarium" museum .
The latter preserves an interesting collection of painted Dauno-Peucezi vases whose creation dates back to a period between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.
