The Basilica of Santa Maria Novella is one of the main churches in the city of Florence, a reference point for Gothic Renaissance architecture. Join the over half a million tourists who visit the church every year and immerse yourself in the history of the Renaissance through the works present in it.
Among the main works we find the Chapel of Filippo Strozzi, frescoed in its entirety by Filippino Lippi and depicting the life of San Filippo. In the third arch of the left nave, you can find a fresco of The Trinity painted by Masaccio, one of the most important painters of the Renaissance. The fresco was found in the nineteenth century and was restored to allow visitors to enjoy it during their visit to the cathedral. The work is one of the best examples of Renaissance perspective, a technique of which Masaccio was a master.
Finally, among the many other works, you can also admire the Tornabuoni Chapel, the largest in the cathedral and dedicated to the Madonna Assunta. This chapel waspainted by Orcagnaand dedicated to the life of the Virgin and that of Saint John the Baptist.
Not just painting though, by visiting the basilica you will have access to an excellent example of Gothic architecture: the Cloister of the Dead.
