The whole world knows the wonderful and iconic Trevi Fountain, but perhaps not everyone knows that in its depths, about 9 meters from street level, there is a real archaeological jewel: Vicus Caprarius.
Also called City of Water, it is a museum site which currently covers an area of 350 m2, between Via San Vincenzo and Vicolo del Puttarello , which today offers a complete and accurate visit to some of the most important finds discovered in the last 30 years.
We know that Rome is a city that never ceases to amaze: with each excavation, a trace of its amazing pastresurfaces /strong>. This is also the case of Vicus Caprarius, a site discovered at the end of the 90s. During the works that affected the land, aimed at construction of a restaurant and a large cinema, a true underground residence dating back to the imperial age was brought to light.
The wonder of the site also lies in the possibility of being able to see different historical phases, passing through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Nineteenth century strong>and Twentieth Century: over the years there have been an increasing number of:stratificationsthat have, in some way, hidden a true monumental complex, whose history and function have evolved together over the years.
From the complex of the Virgin Aqueduct, in fact, in a certain period of the past the wall structure had been re-adapted to a domus, but not only that: today it is possible to visit the antiquarium in its different sections: from polychrome marbles, to wall decorations, ending with everyday use objects which were found in the excavations conducted in the former Cinema Trevi.
You will have the extraordinary opportunity to learn about the stratifications that have constituted Rome for centuries and on which, today, the city as we know it is located, with the company of a team of art historians, archaeologists and specialized guides, who will accompany you on an incredible and complete visit.
Don't hesitate, also because you can choose the way you prefer to visit the so-called City of Water, among four different types offered. We look forward to seeing you inVicolo del Puttarello,25.
