Come and discover the incredible history of St. Peter's Basilica, which begins in the 4th century, when Emperor Constantine ordered its construction, right in the place where he was buried the apostle.
When the church was finished, it began to be used to celebrate worship but also as a cemetery and to host funeral banquets: during the Middle Ages it was one of the main pilgrimage destinations for believers.
Subsequently, Julius II decided to build a new basilica, to replace the first, and commissioned the work to the famous architect Donato Bramante: after the latter's death, the management the works passed into the hands of Raffaello Sanzio and then to Michelangelo Buonarroti who gave the project its definitive shape.
Today, this imposing Basilica is one of the largest buildings in the world and, certainly, the largest of all the papal basilicas: located in Vatican City, it represents the universal seat of the Catholic Church and the home of Pope.
It therefore represents not only a place of worship but also of historical and artistic importance that cannot be overlooked during a visit to Rome!
