Where can you go rafting in Calabria?

In Calabria, the best rafting is done on the Lao river (Cosenza), in the Valle Fiume Lao State Reserve. This location allows you to choose from a variety of sections with varying degrees and characteristics:

• Laino Borgo: Among the several rafting routes available, we recommend those that run from Laino Borgo, at 800 meters above sea level, to Papasidero, at 270 meters above sea level, covering 26 kilometres with duration of 4 hours.

• Lao Gorges: For a classic tour, we propose the Lao Gorges, which are declared world heritage by UNESCO and are ideal for all experience levels. This route starts from the Calabrian village and crosses a succession of II and III level rapids for 8 kilometres.

• Route starting from Papasidero: Starting at 270 meters above sea level, the 8-kilometre journey will take you through the Lao River's waterfalls, eventually reaching Orsomarso, 100 meters above sea level, in one hour. There are milder and shorter paths for children (as young as 8-years-old).

• Starting at the Grotta del Romito (500 meters above sea level) and ascending to Papasidero.

For individuals who are new to rafting, we recommend trying soft rafting or pack rafting, done in a single-seater inflatable boat. This exercise is undeniably a fantastic way to get started with the sport.
