Come and discover, just a few steps from Rome, the park built at the behest of Pope Gregory XVI!
We are waiting for you at Parco Vila Gregorio, in Tivoli: enter its splendid woods, among ancient ruins and natural caves, follow the Aniene that fucks into the rock and admire the force of a spectacular waterfall.
You will have the opportunity to observe a clear example of romantic aesthetics, in which nature, history and archeology blend perfectly, so much so that it has converted the park into an obligatory stop on the very famous nineteenth-century Grand Tour.
In 1832 Pope Gregory XVI decided to promote a great work of hydraulic engineering, to contain the continuous flooding of the Aniene: the waters of the river were channeled into a tunnel dug in Mount Catillo, thus giving life to the fmaosa Cascata Grande, with its 120 meter drop.
Subsequently the Pope decided to create the park and give it his own name, giving birth to one of the most popular destinations in the area among artists and writers.
After the Second World War it became state property and, finally, in 2002 it was granted to the FAI, Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano, which took care of it, valorised it and reopened it to the public : don't miss the opportunity to walk among its vegetation and the numerous remains of ancient Roman villas.
We are waiting for you in Tivoli, in the province of Rome!
