Trekking to Alpe Sattal

Starting from 1 December 2012 Italian Mountains would like to take you into a dream.
An unforgettable excursion to Alpe Sattal to relive the dream of the man who in 1995, after having crossed the Italian Alps far and wide, in summer and winter, for three years alone and with only a tent, stopped right here where he built his home with his own hands by renovating an old ruin.

We will relive the great passion of that same explorer, convinced to make such an evocative life choice by the continuous contact with the wonderful and harsh nature of this area, by the immutable flow of the seasons, by the simple and genuine life of those who need nothing more than the beauty that surrounds him to feel satisfied.

A wooden sign, right before reaching the cabin, invites visitors to take part in this dream and to remember that they are in the place where eagles learn to fly with the wind.

That of Alpe Sattal is one of the very few 'refuges' in the Alps open all year round which acquires in the winter season, cloaked in a thick blanket of snow, the appearance of a warm, reassuring and at the same time isolated and proud nest of 'eagle.
The hut is located on a natural terrace on the slopes of Monte Tagliaferro (2,964 m above sea level) and from it you can enjoy a spectacular 360° panorama with a magnificent view of the Rosa massif.

Program:

• Meeting at Arona station for collection of participants arriving from Milan by train (typical timetables contained in the "transport" section or in any case adaptable to public transport proposals) or collection with direct pick up at hotels and B&Bs for long-term stays Arona, Orta or neighboring towns. In both cases the meeting is scheduled for 7.30 am with arrival in Alagna Valsesia estimated at around 9.30 am,
• Stop at the market to purchase food and drinks and start the trekking to climb up to the hut (2.30 / 3.30 depending on the amount of snow we encounter),
• Alagna Valsesia hamlet. Ronco 1254 m above sea level – Alpe Sattal 2094 m above sea level,
• Stop for a packed lunch or in a hut
• 3.00 pm start of trekking for descent to Alagna Valsesia: (approximately 1.45 hours),
• Alagna Valsesia 4.45pm – transfer by car (85 km),
• Arrival at Arona station at 6.45pm (the first Arona-Milan Porta Garibaldi train departs at 7.03pm and arrives at 8.12pm).

During the journey you will have different customization possibilities to make your excursion even more unforgettable and suited to your desires; we could make stops or visits:

• stop for tasting and purchasetypical products of Valsesia along the road,
• visit to the Sacro Monte di Varallo (world heritage site – UNESCO);
• visit to the traditional village of Rassa in the Tremendi valley.

For those who wish, it will be possible to extend the duration of the excursion up to a maximum time that allows us to return to Milan Pt Garibaldi with the 8.50pm train.

Essential equipment to be provided by the participant:
• high and waterproof trekking shoe (goretex),
• suitable clothing to withstand the cold (fleece, k-way or other waterproof and windproof jacket).
